Oltenia

Oltenia Region is a territory marked by important historical events throughout the ages and the proofs we can see nowadays are the numerous ruins one can find all around the region. There are also valuable health resorts in the area, thanks to the spring waters and thermal baths which have been used and appreciated since ancient times. As well as that, the northern part of Oltenia is a well-known ethno-folkloric centre, especially for the decorated pottery, woodcarving, and traditional clothes.
The altitude of the region decreases from the high peaks of the Parang and Retezat Mountains in the North and North-West to the wonderful hills of the Subcarpati, Podisul Getic or Podisul Mehedinti and furthermore to the large plains in the South of the region. This lovely distribution makes the region an all-year-round touristic destination, with attractive resorts for winter sports lovers and hikers alike.
